Donut Wars: Tim Horton’s Takes New York

timmyhos1.JPG

In the span of a weekend, 12 Dunkin Donuts franchises across the city became New York’s first Tim Horton’s locations. For those of you who have never lived in Canada (or near the Canadian border), Tim Horton’s is to Canada what Dunkin Donuts is to New England. In other words: delicious.

Of course, Dunkin Donuts needs to defend its turf, and this morning, they were out in full force, just steps from the front door of the new Tim Horton’s at 50th and 7th.

Let the donut wars begin.

Timmy Ho’s forever! Sorry, Dunkin’ is good - distinctive, yummy coffee - but when Tim Horton’s is around, there’s no comparison. Tim Horton’s iced cappuccino can go head to head with anyone else’s calorie-bomb frozen treats anyday (coolatas and frappuccinos of the world, watch out)!

Did you know over 60% of coffee sold in Canada is Tim Horton’s brand? The brand that comes in second is Starbucks, with a 7% market share.

Didn’t Tim Horton’s already invade Rhode Island? Now that’s REAL Dunkin’ Donuts territory.

Sadly, LA doesn’t have Dunkin’ or Tim Horton’s. Really, I’d take either. We’re stuck with Starbucks or Coffee Bean. Coffee Bean is better, but few and far between, and more expensive. Oh, and we have Peet’s Coffee and Tea, which I don’t think I’ve ever had. None of them make food the way Dunkin or Tim Horton’s do, and none have anywhere near the amount of sugary breakfast treats. On second thought, maybe it’s a good thing they aren’t here… In high school, when I worked at Mighty Taco, there was a Tim Horton’s down the street. I remember getting iced caps during the summer on break. Mighty + Tim Horton’s = I sorta miss Buffalo.

Umm . . . this is pretty much life-changing. I’m from Ohio, where there’s a Tim Hortons attached to every Wendy’s, and I was pretty sure I was going to have to eventually move back there just for my iced cappuccinos. Now Ohio can suck it.

Former Buffalonian here and I am psyched that Tim Horton’s is here. Anyone know who Tim Horton was? He played hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres and started the franchise before he was killed in a car accident.

It’s Tim Horton’s for me up here in Maine. Much better than Dunkin’.

When I lived in Maine, Dunkin Donuts was king. Horton’s crossed the border over the past few years, but you can’t go wrong with Dunkin’.

Here in Alabama, Krispy Kreme reigns supreme. There’s simply no competition.. and definitely no Horton’s.
