All Aboard the Nostalgia Train

nostalgia1.JPG

Every Sunday until New Year’s, the MTA is operating the Nostalgia Train. This past Sunday, I hopped aboard for the trip, which runs from 2nd Avenue to Queens Plaza on the V line. It’s like stepping back in time, but saying that I was “on the Nostalgia Train” brought about confusion among my friends.

“I thought you meant you were figuratively ‘on the nostalgia train’,” Clinton told me while we watched football on Sunday.

I guess I could’ve meant, “yeah, I’m on the nostalgia train… watching old episodes of ALF and playing with my slap bracelet collection. All aboard the nostalgia train! Choo-choo!”

No, I was on the real MTA Nostalgia Train, which was not actually nostalgic to me, since the last of these train sets ran in regular service four years before I was born. Anyway, these trains had some great vintage advertisements that were true to the era when the trains ran.

An outdated ad for an outdated service. Also, if you don’t use a Zip Code on your letter, a mailman will be strangled in a burlap sack.

Yes, smart moms use Crisco. Bloomberg is barely a twinkle in his mother’s eye right now, so stock your kids with trans fat while you still can!

Quite honestly, given the steady drop in crime in the subway over the past decade, subway ads need more gore like this.

Very amusing. This begs the question…do you have a slap-bracelet question?? If so, how big is it???
