East Village: The Next Park Slope?

June 16, 2008 – 12:12 pm

After coming upon this scene a couple weeks ago in front of Pommes Frites on 2nd Avenue, I began to worry that my neighborhood’s sidewalks would soon be mobbed by the stroller mafia.

I can only hope that they were just visiting. This clearly isn’t a group of Park Slope Mommies - they insist on feeding their offspring only organic, baked potatoes - not the ones fried in hot oil.

  2. You can tell it’s the NYU East Campus or as the oldtimers call it “the East Village” by the fratboy in the baseball hat and long sleeve under a t-shirt.

  3. Don’t even. My ‘hood is a million times worse - although not as quite as insufferable as Park Slope.

  4. Scariest sight ever! Check out that Chanel bag. Obviously the EV is dead. But still stop shooting the dead horse please.

  5. Relax. Cheap-ass strollers and Canal St bags? It’s just a pack of daytrippers momentarily blown off course. Give’em a few minutes, and they’ll be off to Magnolia for some cupcakes.

  6. What the?! I didn’t think you could fit something like that through the door there. Your picture makes the place look much bigger than it is…

  7. To Marc — the picture is taken from outside Pommes Frites.

I really don’t know who I hate more, them stroller moms or the NYU fratboys. Well if there’s going to be a war, I hope it’ll be between these two groups.

  10. Soon? I get hit by strollers almost daily on Avenues A & B. And strollers clutter the halls of my building, too.
