MTA Conductor Doesn’t Know the Meaning of the Word “Next”

June 6, 2008 – 8:43 am

On an N Train this morning:

Conductor: This is 42nd Street-Times Square, transfer is available to the A, C, E, Q, R, W, 1, 2, 3, 7 trains and the Shuttle to Grand Central. The NEXT and LAST STOP on this N Train is 57TH STREET. Stand clear of the closing doors.

[Train pulls out of station]

Conductor: Ladies and gentlemen, once again, the NEXT and LAST STOP on this train is 57TH AND 7TH. For continuing service, transfer across the platform at 57th Street for an R or W train.

[Train pulls into 49th Street Station, stops, and opens doors]

Conductor: This is 49th Street. The NEXT and LAST STOP on this N Train is 57TH STREET. Stand clear of the closing doors.

  2. I think he understands “NEXT” just fine. It’s the word “LAST” that appears to be lost on him.

  6. UGH! I hate when this happens. The MTA needs some type of digital signage on the train (inside and out) to alert riders about changes in stops. Maybe they can use our increased fare (because really, where does that money go to??) to make this happen.
