In Defense of Rhode Island
March 13, 2008 – 8:15 amDear U.S. Census Bureau,

This is not Rhode Island. This isn’t even an attempt at Rhode Island. It looks like you got lazy, took an outline of Vermont, and trimmed the sides off.
This is Rhode Island. Your pathetic representation of my home state is embarassing to us and you. Hang your head in shame. You’ve omitted half of the state… the ISLANDS! Plus, you conveniently shaved off nearly all of its public waters. In fact, one of those islands is called Rhode Island.
Thanks for making Rhode Islanders feel even less significant than they already are. Next time, look at a map.
Sincerely,
A Rhode Island Expatriate

Rhode Island? Is that even a state?

They also messed up DC. That area in the southwest quadrant across the Potomac River? Yeah, that’s Virginia.

Uh - you guys’ do understand what an Island is, right? Ya know - surroundded, water, all sides…
When you get the definition of island right, we’ll get the size of your state right.
Signed,
Census Bureau

which part, exactly, are the providence plantations? (that is your name, right? and that’s your name; come on, it’s Pierre, not Pete, don’t go around telling people your name’s Pete when it’s Pierre (kudos to anyone who gets the reference).

The Census Bureau is really behind the times. That picture of the District of Columbia is what DC used to look like, before they ceded the land across the Potomac back to Virginia over 160 years ago.

good: Yes, I’m a typical NYU douchebag. That makes perfect sense, since I didn’t go to NYU… nor was I forced to move to New York City.
Why did I have to move here? I didn’t have to. I chose to, because living in Rhode Island sucks. I don’t know why that’s a difficult concept to grasp.
But no, really, thanks for the backhanded compliment!

I blame Hollywood and their unrealistic standards of thinness.
