amNY Watch: Rewriting History
March 13, 2008 – 10:41 amHere’s a review of HBO’s John Adams that ran in today’s amNewYork:
Yeah, um, crack that textbook again, because John Adams was our nation’s second president. You know how you could find that out? Go to Wikipedia and type “John Adams.” Here’s the first line:
John Adams, Jr. (October 30, 1735 – July 4, 1826) was the second President of the United States (1797–1801).
But honestly, why research the things you write about when you can just make stuff up?

Well, he did hold the third TERM as President. Washington held two terms, then Adams. Can we give them the benefit of the doubt?
Nah. Never mind… no way they knew that.

A little know fact amNY cut out of its blurb on John Adams: aside from being our country’s second President, he also starred in the movie Sideways.

I read AMNY on the first part of my commute when I’m still half-asleep. That sentence really messed me up because I had to stop and think that maybe everything I thought I knew was wrong. I think someone at AMNY likes to throw these things in on purpose to see if anyone (you) notices.

Hey, maybe you stumbled into the alternate universe where Adams *was* the second president. Ever think of that, smartypants???
