“G-Man” is an antiquated slang experession. I’m not ignorant - I just didn’t happen to live in the era of J. Edgar Hoover. If you’re under 30 and see the term “G-Man” in a New York newspaper, your first instinct is undoubtedly the Giants, not the FBI.
Regardless, real journalists don’t put slang in a hard news headline.
