I Made It Out Alive
December 13, 2007 – 11:14 amGreetings from Chicago.

Yesterday, I called my airline to ask if I could move up my flight, foreseeing a possibly travel nightmare if I left at 9am, just as the ICE STORM OF DOOM would be making the next stop on its U.S. Tour in New York City. The good news: they could do it - and for free! The bad news: I would have to wake up at 4:30am to make my flight.
Well, it’s a good thing I made that change. My early morning flight, miraculously, left LaGuardia on time. In fact, we only had four planes in front of us in line for takeoff. It was like an early Christmas miracle!
My original 9am flight? Well, that got delayed two hours. I would have missed my connection to Jackson Hole. And because there’s only two flights a day to Jackson Hole, I would have been stuck at O’Hare until early tomorrow morning.
See, it pays to watch Weather on the Ones. And it’s sleet, goddammit, not hail.

I’m envisioning the other people in the airport looking at you like you’re a crazy person while you take a picture of yourself holding a newspaper.
