December 4, 2007 – 1:18 pmMy jaw dropped when I saw this hat at the New Era store on West 4th Street. For a second, I thought I was going color blind. Let me assure you: I was not, and neither are you.
Your eyes are not deceiving you. That is a Yankees hat in the Mets’ blue and orange. Why anyone would wear this hat is beyond my comprehension. Unless you just “root for a good game.” Or you’re a New Yorker who was a Mets fan in 1986, but you miraculously discovered you were a Yankees fan in 1996.
The fact that they even sell such a hat is a travesty. Even worse, I am certain that someone owns this hat, and that someone might even wear it proudly.

That doesn’t look like the Mets’ royal blue. That’s a darker blue, more reminiscent of the team from which the Mets stole their logo. But that could just be the camera phone.

Benjamin Kabak: It’s the Mets royal blue. The camera phone picture isn’t that great, unfortunately, and strangely, I couldn’t find a picture of the hat on New Era’s web site.

or another tourist from colorado who thinks it’s cool and doesn’t realize he can’t get on the 7 train wearing that hat.

i’m pretty sure yankees hats are like sox hats, meaning they come in every combination of possibly colors so you can rep your favorite gang while still ostensibly supporting a sports team.
