The View From Your Window
Apologies to Andrew Sullivan, but here’s the view I woke up to this morning:

I’ll be in Montauk for the weekend. Now, Montauk is often considered to be worlds apart from The Hamptons. A lot of people think of Montauk as the “the anti-Hamptons.” I’ve insisted on telling my friends that I’m going to Montauk - not The Hamptons. But unfortunately, according to this map, I was deeply saddened to learn that I’m actually in the Town of Easthampton right now.
Montauk is just a hamlet, not a town. But at least there’s no Starbucks here. Yet.

says:My friend invited to a Montauk-event this weekend. I really have no clue about the whole Hampton-East Hampton-West Egg-East Egg thing. But I was intrigued enough to attend the tour and observe the dynamic. So it’s a hamlet, eh?

Are you familiar with this? It all seems very chic!

says:Speaking as a local Hamptonite (I grew up in Southampton), rest assured - you’re not in “The Hamptons.”
To locals, The Hamptons consists of Bridge, East and South. Sag Harbor and Hampton Bays also get nods due to their proximity. (No one from “Out East” considers Westhampton officially part of us)
You are in Montauk, otherwise known as “The End.”
Yes, much like Sag Harber, zoning situates it within East Hampton township, but Montauk is still it’s own village.
Don’t worry - you haven’t popped your Hamptons Cherry.

says:I woke up to NPR this morning. That and I woke up late. I suppose I could have taken a picture of that and blogged it, but it wouldn’t be nearly as jealousy-inspiring. We salute your summer vacation.

says:I hope where ever your staying has an outdoor shower. That’s my favorite part of my uncle’s house in Southhampton, and there was also one in the house my parents rented in Montauk one summer. I’ve never seen one anywhere else, but take that with a grain of salt - I don’t go anywhere I can’t stay for free, so I tend to not see much glitz and glamour on vacation.
I promise, I did not intend for this comment to be about you showering. Gross.
